Mr. Jonathan Butcher

I am delighted to be appointed Principal of Verdala International School (VIS) elementary campus from August 2016.

When I first visited VIS I was immediately impressed by the positive ethos of the school. With only two classes in each grade level, VIS elementary campus has a family feel, providing a safe and caring environment for over 200 children between the ages 3 to 11. The school is situated in Pembroke, on the Eastern side of the beautiful Island of Malta, sure to be conducive to the joyful learning journey at VIS.

The elementary school takes a holistic approach, developing the whole child through positive experiences, growing their hearts, minds and souls. Small classes (maximum of 20) allow for personalised learning, putting each child at the center of our programmes. Guided inquiry and differentiated instruction allow all children to feel supported and appropriately challenged, to be independent critical thinkers.

We follow the inquiry-based International Primary Curriculum (IPC), so that our students may become knowledgeable, inquisitive and ethical contributors to the world in which they will graduate into. The IPC is a comprehensive, thematic, creative curriculum that recognises children learn best when they want to learn. Both the IPC Early Years programme and the later Milepost 1-3 programmes acknowledge student interests and readiness, to help them learn more about the world around us and engage positively and responsibly within our local and global communities. This curriculum is used by over 1,800 schools in more than 90 different countries.

I look forward to working with all stakeholders to maintain high standards in teaching and learning, to establish positive relationships and to embrace a growth mindset within our community.
