Head of School Announces Retirement by Roy G Crawford

I am writing to advise you that I have resigned my position as VIS Head of School effective 30 June 2016. My wife Carrie and I have decided that it is time to retire. After 40 continuous years in education, we have come to the realization that it is time to wind down, relax, and spend as much time as possible with our children and grandchildren. The grandchildren are growing up quickly (probably those of you who are parents can relate), and we can no longer justify being separated from them. We are missing their childhood!

I officially resigned my position at the Board of Directors meeting on 22 September 2015. My current contract expires in June 2017, but a clause in that contract allows me to resign by giving nine months’ notice.

I want to make it clear that I was extremely grateful for the opportunity to continue my employment at VIS this school year. Together with you and the Board, we have made great strides to move our school forward and I am committed to continuing our fine work this school year.

In addition, I welcome the opportunity to support the Board of Directors in the upcoming recruiting process in any way they see fit. I am committed to playing a positive and proactive role to secure quality leadership for Verdala. We are also committed to making the recruiting process as inclusive as possible. To that end, I will be writing shortly to invite focus groups of educators, administrative and support staff, parents and students to determine experience, expertise and personal qualities to be exhibited by preferred candidates. I hope that as many of you as possible put yourselves forward and participate enthusiastically in this most important of decisions for the school and its future.

As usual, thank you for your support, and I look forward to a productive school year.
